THE MBTS EXTERNAL QUALITY ASSURANCE PROGRAM (QAP-TX)
Are you interested in improving the quality and safety of your blood bank services?
The MBTS offers the QAP-Tx program, an external quality assurance program designed to assess the competency of blood banks in performing pre-transfusion testing.
Who can participate?
This program is open to all blood banks in Malaysia.
What are the benefits?
Identify areas for improvement: QAP-Tx helps you identify areas where your blood bank's procedures or staff competency may need improvement.
Benchmark your performance: Compare your results with other blood banks in Malaysia, including KKM hospitals participating in the NEQABB program (coordinated by the same committee).
Enhance patient safety: By ensuring the accuracy of pre-transfusion testing, you can contribute to safer blood transfusions for patients.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

How does the program work?
The program focuses on the final results (interpretation and work process) rather than specific methods used.
This is because pre-transfusion testing often involves manual procedures, where individual competency plays a crucial role.
You will receive a report with your performance evaluation, focusing on reaction interpretation, test accuracy, and clerical/reporting issues.
Do I need training for the QC kit?
No specific product training is provided.
The program expects you to treat the samples like real patient samples, following your standard procedures.
Each kit comes with instructions on required tests and deadlines.
Will I receive reports?
Yes, you will receive an official report for each exercise cycle.
Additionally, a yearly summary report will be provided, highlighting your performance across all three cycles.
What is the program fee?
The program fee is currently RM3,249.00 per year (subject to yearly revision).
