PBM Kedah 2024

The Patient Blood Management (PBM) event for the Northern Zone in 2024, organized by the Transfusion Medical Department of Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in collaboration with the Malaysian Blood Transfusion Society and the Transfusion Medical Department of Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim, took place on May 20-21, 2024 at Park Avenue Hotel in Sungai Petani, Kedah. This second series followed the PBM event in Miri and aimed to facilitate interdisciplinary medical learning and treatment methods beyond blood transfusion. Lecture sessions were held on May 20, 2024, while practical sessions were conducted the following day. Topics covered during the lectures included PBM in Surgical Departments, PBM in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Massive Transfusion Protocol, and Prothrombin Complex Concentrate (PCC) and other transfusion alternatives.

During the practical sessions, participants were divided into several groups to discuss topics such as Transfusion Safety, Application of PBM Pillars, Optimizing Hemopoiesis vs. Blood Transfusion, Minimizing Blood Loss, Estimating Blood Loss and Massive Transfusion Protocol, and Intravenous Iron Therapy.
