The Basic Immunohaematology Course held on April 19-20, 2025, at Wisma R&D, Universiti Malaya, welcomed 64 participants, with 24 committee members and 6 expert speakers. The course aimed to provide foundational knowledge on transfusion immunohaematology, covering essential laboratory techniques and clinical applications.
Day 1 featured lectures on ABO/RhD testing, antibody screening, and crossmatching, presented by experts like Prof. Dr. Janejira and Mr. Anthony Leung from QuidelOrtho. Practical sessions included ABO/RhD typing and indirect antiglobulin tests. Day 2 introduced more complex scenarios such as ABO discrepancies, emergency transfusions, and pediatric transfusions, with case studies. Hands-on activities included direct antiglobulin tests and antibody identification.
Participants learned to apply immunohaematology principles in clinical settings, ensuring safe pre-transfusion practices and effective resolution of common issues. The course equipped attendees with both theoretical and practical skills necessary for clinical or research applications in immunohaematology.
